Research Summary

Research Highlights

Personal

I have been in Surrey Campus over the last 15 years and ever since I have learned every day from my colleagues and patients. We see most interesting global cases here in Surrey from all over the world. It’s a privilege to practice here and the medical staff are so inspiring with their passion for teaching and interacting scholarly with residents and students. This contribution is a great welcome addition to the scientific community of UBC. To inspire next generation of future doctors, we will need interesting pathology and passion to educate and research on unknowns and thankfully, we have them all here in Surrey Campus. We have an innovative way of teaching our trainees. Our faculty are ranked top 10% by students and residents who come here for electives and Mandatory rotations. All these privileges given us a sense of pride and pleasure to contribute to high quality medical training here in Surry Campus. My most favorite moments are when I do bedside rounds with the students and residents and whenever as a team, we are able to explore the arts and skills of clinical medicine to diagnose the illness with least help of technology and bringing cutting edge of research to the bedside medicine.

I am a clinical associate professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of British Columbia as well the senior infectious diseases consultant at the Surrey Campus.

I have been the site lead for UBC department of undergrad for ambulatory medicine in Surrey since 2014, a new curriculum required for undergrad students in clinical training. In 2017, I have been appointed as associated for faculty development in Vancouver Fraser Medical Program.

I am co-site director for British Columbia in Geo-Sentinel surveillance study to screen travelers with febrile illnesses spearheaded by Centre for diseases Control in Atlanta, United States. I have served as chairman of the Society of Tropical Medicine Expert Group of British Columbia since 2013.
