GASTROENTEROLOGY

Angela Burleigh

CROHN’s and Colitis Canada Prize: Endowed by the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada to a student in the Faculty of Medicine showing particular interest and achievement in the field of gastroenterology. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty.


ENDOCRINOLOGY

Diana Lam-Endo-Dandelion

Diana Lam

DANDELION Prize: Endowed through a bequest by Edward Donald Greathed for one or more deserving students in the Faculty of Medicine who have achieved high standing in Endocrinology. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine.


RESPIRATORY MEDICINE

Vesna Mihajlovic-Resp-Ure

Vesna Mihajlovic

William Scott URE and Kathleen D Ure Memorial Award: Endowed by the late Kathleen D. Ure. The award is offered to an undergraduate or post-graduate student in the Faculty of Medicine, in the field of Respiratory disease. The award is made on the recommendation of the Department of Medicine, in consultation with the Division of Respiratory Disease and the Division of Cardio-thoracic Surgery.


MEDICAL ONCOLOGY

Robynn Geier-Med Onc-Sabitri

Robynn Geier

Sabitri and Sudhin Memorial Student Scholarship: Endowed by Swaraj K. and Gayatri Chattopadhyay in memory of their Aunt Sabitri and Uncle Sudhin for students in the Faculty of Medicine who are specializing in Oncology. Sabitri and Sudhin both passed away from cancer. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated financial need. Recommendations are made by the Faculty of Medicine and, in case of graduate students, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.


CARDIOLOGY

Trevor Skutesky-Cardiology-Hertzman

Trevor Skutezky

Victor HERTZMAN Memorial Prize in Cardiology: Endowed in memory of Victor Hertzman by his family. The award is offered to a student in the M.D. program who has demonstrated interest and achievement in Cardiology. The award is made on the recommendation of the Division of Cardiology in the Faculty of Medicine.

 

Steven Pi-Cardiology-Reid

Steven Pi

Dr. J. A. G. REID Memorial Prize in Cardiology: Endowed by his partners of The Seymour Medical Clinic in tribute to Dr. John A. G. Reid, is offered to an undergraduate medical student who has shown interest and proficiency in the field of Cardiology. The award is made on the recommendation of the Division of Cardiology of the Faculty of Medicine.

 

Mikameh Kazem-Cardiology-Fouks

Mikameh Kazem

Jack FOUKS Memorial Prize: Endowed by Mrs. J. Fouks, in memory of her husband. The award is made to a student in the final year of the Faculty of Medicine, with the most outstanding record in cardiology. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty.


INTERNAL MEDICINE

David Thomas

Ted and Fiona LEUNG Memorial Scholarship: Endowed by family, friends and colleagues of Ted and Fiona Leung, honouring the life-long contribution of Ted Leung to the practice of accounting and auditing at Vancouver City Hall. The scholarship is awarded on the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine to students in the M.D. Program who have demonstrated excellence in the study of internal medicine.

 

Shamir Rai-GIM-Munroe

Shamir Rai
Dr. Donald S. MUNROE Memorial Scholarship:  Endowed in recognition of the many years of outstanding clinical teaching given by Dr. Munroe. It is awarded to a student who, in the opinion of the Department has demonstrated outstanding clinical skills in the subject of Internal Medicine. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine Promotions Committee.

 

Aaron van Slyke-GIM-Margulius

Aaron Van Slyke 

Dr. Jack MARGULIUS Memorial Prize: Endowed by Mrs. Maisie Margulius Schloss and daughter, Dr. Myrna Frances Schloss to honour the memory of Dr. Jack Margulius who, between the years 1937 and 1965, served with distinction and devotion as a specialist in the field of internal medicine, this prize has been . A graduate of the University of Manitoba in 1937, Dr. Margulius practised in New Westminster until 1941. He then entered the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, and served overseas as Second-in-Command with Number Six General Hospital. In 1946 he resumed his practice in New Westminster. For eight years he was Chief of Medicine at Royal Columbian Hospital, and between 1948 and 1954, headed the Department of Cardiology which he himself had organized. Later he became Medical adviser to the Director of the Department, and, at the time of his death, he was Chief of Staff at St. Mary’s Hospital. A prize is awarded to a student in the third or fourth year who has an outstanding record in internal medicine.


NEUROLOGY

Laura Haley-Neuro-Dawlings

Laura Haley

Dr. John R. C. DAWLINGS Memorial Scholarship: Endowed by Mrs. Johanna T. Dawlings in memory of her son. John Dawlings obtained his M.D. degree from UBC in 1970. Prior to his death in 1981, he was the chief of Neurology at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty to an outstanding student in MEDI 430 (Clinical Internship) with a demonstrated interest in Neurology.
